Laboratory Device Integration with the HIS

At Öztan Hospitals I led the project integrating every laboratory device with the hospital information system.

The problem it solves

Typing a device’s result into the system by hand carries two costs: the result reaches the patient record later, and every transcription carries the chance of an error. In a laboratory, the price of that chance falls directly on the clinical decision.

What it offers

• Every laboratory device was connected to the hospital information system
• Results are transferred from the device to the system directly

Technical approach

As project lead I coordinated between the device manufacturers, the laboratory team and the HIS side. Treating the devices as a whole rather than one at a time made it possible to establish a single flow on the laboratory information system side.

What changed

• Result transfer became faster
• The margin for error from manual entry shrank
