Training Management System

Training Management System

I built a system that digitises the planning, attendance verification and reporting of mandatory and in-service training.

The problem it solves

Training management had two separate problems. Attendance was collected on paper signature sheets, which made reporting laborious and left its accuracy open to question. Second, preparing a session was not one department’s job: catering, technical equipment and communications each had to be told separately, and one of those steps was easily missed.

What it offers

  • Planning, tracking and reporting of training in a single system
  • Fast attendance verification via ID cards (RFID) that cannot be manipulated
  • Instant training reports per employee or per department
  • Automatic notifications based on the boxes ticked while defining a session: catering requests go to the Support Services Manager, projector and audio requests to the IT Manager, photography and video requests to the Corporate Communications Officer

Technical approach

Built with C# and .NET, the system ties attendance verification to the RFID ID card staff already carry: no new hardware and no second credential are needed. Placing the preparation notices inside the session definition was also deliberate; had it been a separate reminder list, that list is what would have been forgotten.

What changed

  • No stage of the preparation is missed and departments work in step with one another
  • Managers can follow their staff’s training status from a single dashboard
